        Hi,

just thought i should share this with you.

A couple of years back i just gave up searching for a solution to the specific problem i had. My K2500 with KDFX sometimes (well..often) produced a very loud noise that seemed to come straight from hell. (at least, if there's a hell for musicians, and there must be , i sure as hell know what it sounds like . The problem started after i had KDFX installed. It's probably a hardware related issue. I guess a new motherboard with a later revison level could solve it but that would be quite (too)expensive and probably very hard to come by in the Netherlands where i live. I had a skilled technician do the required installation of some different chips and removal or adding jumpers, according to the service manual that came with KDFX. But that didn't solve the problem, it even got worse !

The problem only occured with some specific programs, to be exactly, all organ presets (not KB3) and both marimba presets. The noise blasted out of the PA when you least expected it, but always when i had an organ preset or a setup that contained an organ.

I even thought of getting rid of the K2500 all together and buy something new. The noiseproblem made my beloved K totally unreliable for gigging.

But i hang on to it. I just couldn't get myself to sell it to some poor guy who would probably get a heartattack the first gig he would use it .

Last weekend i was playing with it again at home and there was the good old noise from hell again. Instead ressetting and beeing pissed for the rest of the day like i normally do/am, i lowered the volume and just let it shreek. Called up the effects page and started muting the FX busses one after another. To my surprise the noise stopped everytime i muted the aux fx. I then edited the studio's (145 and 146)and set the aux fx to zero and set the auxpreset to 'none'. Saved the studio and tried it again. Gone was the noise! And of course there was no global effect anymore. But that was easily solved by editing the organprograms and adding some effect from the digitec (forgotten but it's still there in the K2500).

Allthough it doens't solve the actual problem (hardware), at least i found a tweak to get rid of the symptoms. I did the same trick with the marimba programs and relevant KDFX studio. Here i killed the aux fx and also removed the compressor because i noticed also some static ticking left and right. Kiling the compressor solved that.

Next thing was to test it the whole day and i now was pretty sure it should be completely clean! I loaded the latest object files as 'everything', tweaked the organ and marimba programs and studios exactly as mentioned above, saved it again as everything and loaded it as objectsfile.

There! problem solved. All the tweaks are now in flash ROM now.

I'm not sure if it helps anybody. However, there must be some K2500's out there with the same or related problems.

This is just what i like so much about Kurzweil. There's always a way to tweak you out of a problem. There's so much you can do, you just have to stumble across it to know it. (or finally read the f**king KDFX manual , like i did)

        Yes, i'm back allright .
